Right Place, Wrong Time

Apologies to Dr. John but I'm always in the wrong place at the wrong time. Story of my life. I saw a piece on the world's longest yard sale a few years ago and figured I'd enjoy it. Put it on my list of things to see and do, eventually. Well, darn, it takes place soon and winds through Tennessee. On the other side of the state!!! Can you believe it? Better yet, would you believe that I actually went to Mapquest to see how far away it was from me? 7 hours...won't be taking the trip.

I've already mentioned that my sorority is celebrating in DC and I'm in TN but I ran across this and thought you would enjoy seeing it. I pledged Beta Lambda and a photo of one of the lines is included. You can just see Doris Jackson's face at the end of the photo. Memories.

I never weighed in on The New Yorker magazine cover issue--the artwork was fabulous; the concept awful. 'Nuff said.

His Arrogance, the mayor of Memphis, did NOT step down from his office, as he announced he would. I guess that was contingent upon his receiving the position as superintendent of schools. They didn't consider him. Convicted ex-state senator, John Ford, is currently on trial in Nashville for taking another bribe while in office. They do intend for him to be in jail for a long time. Finally worked out the relationship between him and Harold Ford, Jr.; he's the uncle. His brother is Harold Ford, Sr., Tennessee's first African-American congressional representative. And sister, Ophelia Ford, was just denied renewal on her mortician's license. Good grief, their father is spinning.

Can you picture me giving instructions on how to get from point A to point B? Me--who can't find her way around the Big Rip? But I do know how to get to the Wal-Mart, in Cordova, which is where the former training coordinator will be until he goes to Arkansas. Take I-40 to 16A, Germantown Parkway. Ha-cha-cha.

My latest project (instead of working in or on Serendipity) is to find out why the section of US Highway 51 (which runs from Wisconsin to New Orleans by the way), through Lauderdale County, is named for Jere B. Ford. Logging lots of computer hours here and the grass is growing. I'll be sure to let you know as soon as I find out.
